New Mills Volunteer Centre provides volunteering opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds. We offer a range of services to the local community in which volunteers participate.

New Mills Volunteer Centre - click to EnlargeThe Volunteer Centre has its own fully accessible modern premises with a shop-front on Union Road in the middle of New Mills.

The Centre has a large downstairs function room and two upstairs meeting rooms, all of which are available for hire.

We always welcome new volunteers or requests for our services. Contact us or visit the Centre to talk in person.

Main Activities

Transport – volunteers use their own cars to take older or disabled people to their doctors, to hospital appointments, or out shopping.

Shopping – a group of volunteers meet on Thursday mornings to shop from lists for housebound people, and the shopping is then delivered by a volunteer driver.

ShopAround – also on Thursdays, elderly and disabled people are escorted on minibus trips to shopping centres at local towns.

Befriending – visiting people who are isolated or live on their own with little contact. This may involve taking people out on trips.

Groups – volunteers help in the running of groups for over 60s, stroke support, handicraft, and at the Alzheimers café.

Gardening & DIY – work for local people who struggle to maintain their gardens or homes.
