New Mills Volunteer Centre has adopted the following policies.

Adult Protection

New Mills and District Volunteer Centre believes that vulnerable adults should expect to be treated with dignity and respect.
Aggression The Volunteer Centre is committed to the protection of staff and volunteers from the damaging effects of aggressive behaviour encountered at work. The Volunteer Centre believes that every employee and volunteer has a right to work without being subjected to violence and aggression.
Alcohol & Drugs The Centre does not permit the taking of non-prescription drugs on the premises. Drinking alcohol is also forbidden, except on designated social ocassions.
Complaints Procedure A formal complaint must be put in writing to the Centre Manager who will endeavour to resolve the matter.
Confidentiality This policy is intended to protect the interests of users, potential users and their carers, staff, trustees and voluntary workers. The need to ensure the right to privacy is essential so that the service user has trust and confidence in the organisation.
Conflict of Interest Trustees have a legal obligation to act in the best interests of New Mills and District Volunteer Centre and in accordance with its governing document.
Data Protection New Mills and District Volunteer Centre needs to keep certain information about its staff, Board of Trustees, volunteers and clients to allow the Centre to run efficiently and effectively. This information must be collected and used fairly, stored safely and not disclosed to any other person unlawfully.

Environmental

As an organisation using the Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure service to help assess the suitability of applicants for positions of trust, we comply fully with the CRB Code of Practice regarding correct handling, use, storage, retention and disposal of Disclosures and Disclosure information.

 

As part of our commitment to reduce the centres impact on the environment, targets have been agreed.

The Trustees of NMVC acknowledge their legal responsibilities and believe that good practice requires the observation of these policy guidelines.

 

The purpose of this policy is to ensure all paid staff and volunteers understand the way our IT facilities should be used, to enable us to gain maximum benefit from them in carrying out our jobs.

Mission Statement

It is the policy of the NMDVC that all drivers, escorts and staff whose work involves assisting people with movement take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work.

 

The mission of the Volunteer Centre is to promote any charitable purpose for the benefit of the residents of  New Mills and District.

Recruitment & Selection NMVC seeks to recruit the best person for each vacancy, regardless of sex, race, creed, disability or age.
Recruitment of Ex- offenders As an organisation using the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosure service to assess suitability for positions of trust, NMVC seeks not to discriminate unfairly against anyone on the basis of conviction or other information revealed.
Stress The Trustees are committed to protecting the health, safety and welfare of all concerned with the Centre and recognises that workplace stress is a health and safety issue that needs identifying and reducing.
Volunteering Volunteers are people who contribute their time, energy and skills to benefit people in the community, unpaid and of their free will.

Whistle-blowing The Volunteer Centre will not tolerate the harassment or victimisation of anyone raising a genuine concern.

New Mills Volunteer Centre always welcomes new volunteers or requests for our services.

Our volunteers undertake a wide variety of activities, such as driving housebound people to appointments, shopping, befriending, working with groups, and gardening and DIY.

Volunteers also assist in the Centre office, on reception, in Committee work and through fundraising.
